Did you ever wonder where Ne-Yo's name orginated from? His real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith and he was born in Arkansas but raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. A friend of Ne-Yo's used to call him Neo, (Keanu Reeves in the Matrix) because he felt that Ne-Yo could see music the way Neo saw, The Matrix. Ne-Yo then added the Yo to relate it to the hip hop culture. (Wikipedia)
The 24 year old singer and songwriter has written songs for many well-known artists of today including Rihanna's 'Unfaithful' and Mario's 'Let me love you.' He has also written songs for Marques Houston, Faith Evans, Christina Milian, B2K, Chris Brown, Nivea, Tyrese and Jamie Foxx.
His first single 'Stay' hit 36 on the U.S RnB charts, which was then followed by 'So Sick' which hit number 3 on the charts. His latest single is 'Sexy love' and the yet to be released in Australia, 'When you're mad.' These songs feature in his album 'In My Own Words'.
Ne-Yo revealed in the May edition 2006 of Vibe Magazine that he has a Chinese grandfather. Ne-Yo states that whilst he was growing up his father Wiley would abuse his mother. The singer also has a son named Chimere.
