KRUMPING
December 14th 2006 05:53
Many people are unaware of what Krumping is, whereas many people are either familiar with it or dancing it. It originated in the African American community of South Central, California. It is an energetic, and an expressive form of dance where some dancers paint their faces to show more emotion.
It is a form of clowning. Clowning was developed by Tommy the Clown who was a hip hop dancer. He would attend childrens birthday parties and encourage them to dance, and of course Clown.
Back to Krumping, it can consist of battles between two or more people.
It can look like they are taking part in a fight, but it's just the way the dancers express themselves. The dancers understand that it is part of the dance and they do not whatsoever take offence.
Krumping started to become more well-known in Australia in 2002, by
Sherwin Glen who Krumped at a small talent show based in Australia.
Clowning and Krumping are very similar however there are some differences that are quite visible. For example, Krumping has speed, a rapid rhythmic bobbling and jerking of the body, the flex of the spine and thrust-out chest, which is called "the krump". Clowning also has these features, however they also include moves such as twerking, booty popping, freaking, snaking and winding.
